A decent bloody mary in Fairfax is easier to find than you’d think, but a great one requires some navigation. You have to be willing to drive past three strip malls and a mattress store to get to Commonwealth Brewing Co’s pepper-forward pour, then double back to the quiet polish of Elyse, where Chef Krinn treats the drink like a course.

The spread runs from studio-pub experiments with pot-sticker garnishes to back-to-basics celery stalks at Another Broken Egg. We ranked them all.

Skip the lazy mimosa and pick your fighter.

Another Broken Egg Cafe gets the basics right, which is more than many brunch spots manage. The service was friendly and attentive without hovering. My bloody mary arrived with a fresh celery stalk and a pickle spear, nothing fussy. The eggs were cooked exactly as ordered, and the fresh fruit on the side tasted like it was cut that morning. I tried one of their mocktails too, and it was surprisingly well-balanced. If you want a reliable, no-drama bloody mary with solid food, this place delivers. It won't blow your mind, but it won't disappoint either. That counts for a lot in Fairfax.

Fair prices for quality

One Bar & Grill does not mess around with their happy hour. The bourbon list is excellent, and the tapas are beautifully plated. My bloody mary was a straightforward, classic build—tomato, spice, a decent garnish. But the real winner here is the value. For the quality of the food and the generosity of the pour, the prices are fair. The wait staff was helpful and knew the menu well. If you want a bloody mary alongside some serious snacks, this is a smart stop. It's not the most adventurous drink, but it's competently made and backed by a kitchen that cares.

Mackenzie's Tunes & Tonics makes everything in-house, and you can taste it. The bloody mary mix had a fresh, vegetal depth that most places skip. The garnish was simple but well-considered. The kitchen is allergy-aware, which is a relief if you have dietary restrictions. Live music adds a pleasant background hum without drowning conversation. The vibe is welcoming, and the drinks are carefully made. I ordered their comfort food special, and it matched the quality of the drink. It's not a flashy place, but it's honest and skilled. If you want a bloody mary that tastes like someone actually thought about it, this is a strong contender. I left impressed.

Beef fat fries with garlic
Flavorful birria ramen
Immaculate yuca fry dipping sauce
Cool, laidback dim lighting

B Side has a cool, dimly lit vibe that feels more like a late-night spot than a brunch place. My bloody mary was solid, but the real stars were the sides. The beef fat fries with garlic were dangerously good. The birria ramen was rich and flavorful, a surprising combo that worked. The yuca fry dipping sauce was immaculate—creamy, tangy, and a little spicy. The staff was attentive without being intrusive. The bloody mary itself was standard, but the food elevates the whole experience. If you're looking for a bloody mary with a meal that actually excites you, B Side is worth your time. Just be ready for the dark, moody atmosphere.

Brunch menu worth returning for

Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar does brunch well, and the bloody mary is no exception. The crispy chilli bacon is the standout garnish—smoky, spicy, and genuinely delicious. The drink itself was well-balanced, not too thick, with a good punch. The steak and veggie plate was excellent, and the dog-friendly patio is a nice touch if you bring a pet. The allergen menu is thorough, which is great for sensitive guests. The brunch menu has enough variety that I'd return just for the food. The bloody mary is competent, but it's the extras that make this place memorable. If you want a relaxed, reliable brunch with a solid drink, Lazy Dog delivers.

Great Reuben and beef stew
Cheerful, welcoming atmosphere

Patriot's Pub & Grill is about value, plain and simple. The portions are generous, and the prices are honest. My bloody mary was straightforward and a little rough around the edges, but it did the job. The Reuben was packed with meat, and the beef stew was hearty and fresh. The service was friendly and helpful, the kind of place where they remember your name. The atmosphere is cheerful and welcoming, nothing fancy. If you want a bloody mary that doesn't pretend to be something it isn't, this is your spot. It's a working person's drink at a working person's price. I appreciate the lack of pretense.

Studio Eats Kitchen & Bar in Fairfax is a bit of a wildcard. The bloody mary I ordered was accompanied by a surprisingly creative garnish—not the usual celery-and-olive routine. The drink itself was well-made, with a house mix that had a noticeable kick. Service was prompt, and the space feels modern without being cold. The menu is playful, and I could see returning for a fuller meal. The bloody mary wasn't the most memorable part of the visit, but it was competent and enjoyable. If you're in the area and want something a little different from your standard brunch fare, Studio Eats is a reasonable bet. It's a solid, if unspectacular, entry.

High Side does Taiwanese street food with real skill, and the drink menu is just as thoughtful. My bloody mary was served with a fun, inventive pot sticker suspended on the rim—it was a gimmick that actually worked. The beer list is outstanding, with plenty of local and rare options. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly, the kind of place where you can settle in for a few rounds. The pot stickers themselves were a highlight. The bloody mary was spicy and well-seasoned, a good companion to the food. They also sell beer to-go and merch, which is a nice bonus. If you want a bloody mary with personality, High Side delivers.

Bright, welcoming indoor and outdoor seating
Weekend brunch with Southern menu

Ruthie's All-Day is a bright, welcoming spot that does Southern food properly. My bloody mary was competent, but the food stole the show. The skillet cornbread and apple donuts are worth the trip alone. The Brisket Bennie reinvents eggs Benedict with tender, smoky meat. The BBQ chicken was juicy and full of flavor. They have indoor and outdoor seating, both comfortable. The weekend brunch menu is extensive and well-executed. The bloody mary had a good base, though the garnish was nothing special. This isn't the place to go if you want an elaborate bloody mary. But if you want a great brunch with a drink on the side, Ruthie's is a top pick. The food does the heavy lifting.

Michelin-worthy courses, consistently refined

Elyse is a different animal. This is fine dining, and the bloody mary comes with a level of care that most places can't match. The chef's counter seating puts you right in the action, and Chef Jonathan Krinn personally checked on my table. The cocktail was refined—clear tomato flavor, subtle heat, and a garnish that felt deliberate. Wine pairings are thoughtful throughout the meal. The service is warm, unhurried, and attentive. Every course was consistently refined, the kind of cooking that makes you pause. This is not a casual brunch spot. But if you want a bloody mary treated with the same seriousness as a degustation menu, Elyse is unmatched in Fairfax. It's an experience, not just a drink.

Commonwealth Brewing Co FFX is a workout to reach, but they make it worth your while. The bloody mary list is long, and the Sunday brunch crowd knows it. I ordered a classic with their house mix. It was bold, peppery, and had a nice kick. The space is huge, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, so you never feel rushed. Parking is ample, which is rare around here. The beer and cocktail list is overwhelming in the best way. If you're willing to put in the effort to get there, you'll be rewarded with a solid bloody mary and a relaxed atmosphere. Caboose Brewing Company & Tavern is the kind of place where you can stay for hours without noticing. The trailside location gives it a relaxed, unhurried feel. My bloody mary was a solid effort—flavorful, with a decent amount of spice and a clean finish. The service was friendly and attentive, and the beer list is strong if you want to switch things up. It's a great spot for groups, with easy parking. The food is dependable, too. Nothing about the bloody mary will shock you, but it's consistent and satisfying.
