Buffets in Laurel are a gamble, but that’s half the fun. You’ve got your sprawling, warehouse-sized spread where the crawfish and galbi rotate fresh, and then you’ve got the intimate spots where the chef hands you a samosa like you’re family.

I’ve done the legwork — including one plate at Sakura where the steak required actual jaw endurance, and the sweet tea tasted like a dare. The real winners here nail their specific lane, whether that’s halal beef soup worth a drive or a pineapple fried rice that steals the show.

Local wisdom says come hungry and pick your favorite. You’re about to find yours.

Skip the questionable leftovers
Don’t trust the sweet tea
Steak’s a rubbery workout
Bring your own clean plate

So, Sakura Seafood Buffet. I walked in on a Tuesday afternoon feeling optimistic, which was my first mistake. The place has all the charm of a cafeteria that gave up, and the food matches the vibe. Avoid the Monday lunch rush? Friend, avoid every rush. The steak was a rubbery workout for my jaw, and the sweet tea tasted like it had been brewed with regret and old socks. I brought my own clean plate, and honestly, that was the smartest move of the day. The leftovers looked suspicious, so I skipped them. You might find something edible if you're desperate, but you're better off hitting a gas station hot dog roller. Not my favorite stop in Laurel, let me tell you.

Kabu Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi is a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively. You walk in past this pretty tree near the entrance, and it sets this calm, welcoming tone. The space is clean, bright, and family-friendly, which is a rare combo. Service was fast, and the food? Fabulous, no complaints from my table. The pineapple fried rice was this sweet, smoky surprise that I couldn't stop scooping. And the happy hour drink prices? Let's just say my bill was friendlier than expected. It's not a traditional buffet, but for a buffet-style appetite, the portions and quality hit the spot. I left full and happy, which is more than I can say for other spots on this list.

Worth the drive back

Mandarin Express is the kind of place that makes you want to drive across town just for another meal. It's Halal Chinese done right, and that's not a small thing. The soups are warm and comforting, but the beef dishes are the real stars. My kids were all over the noodles, which is a win for any parent. But the owner's warmth is what sealed the deal. You feel like a guest, not just a customer. The flavors are bold and clean, no greasy aftertaste. I'm already planning my next trip back, and that's saying something. If you're in Laurel and craving Chinese but want that extra care, this is your spot. Worth every mile of the drive.

Best Indian-Italian fusion pizzas
Outstanding spiced curries and naan
Friendly service, reasonable prices
Fresh, perfectly executed crusts

Okay, Bella Indian & Italian Cuisine sounds like a gimmick, but trust me, it works. I had their fusion pizza, and it might be the best thing I've eaten this month. The crust is fresh, perfectly executed, not too thick, not too floppy. Then you add their spiced curries and warm naan, and suddenly you're in this weird, wonderful food dream. The service is friendly and prices are reasonable, which is a bonus. I went in skeptical, left as a believer. The Indian-Italian combo sounds chaotic, but it's pure genius. You get the comfort of pizza with the depth of Indian spices. If you're adventurous and hungry, this place delivers. No awards invented, just good food.

House Of India

Authentic Indian and Nepali dishes
Buffet with wide variety
Friendly, attentive staff

House Of India is a classic, and for good reason. They've got a buffet that covers all the bases, from creamy butters to spicy vindaloos. The staff is friendly and attentive, always ready to explain a dish or refill your naan basket. Authentic Indian and Nepali options, which adds a nice twist. I spotted a 15% off sign for the whole menu, and free delivery within five miles, so it's easy to get your fix. The variety is wide, so you can graze or pile your plate high. I went for the biryani and wasn't disappointed. It's a solid choice in Laurel for a no-fuss, satisfying buffet meal. Nothing fancy, just good food done right.

Fresh grill shrimp options

GrandE Buffet & Grill is a massive space, and I mean massive. You could lose a small child in there, but in a good way. The food rotates fresh, so you don't get that sad, dried-out buffet feeling. For the price, the variety is impressive. I loaded up on the crawfish, which were surprisingly tasty, and the galbi had that sweet, savory kick. The grill shrimp options are fresh, not rubbery, which is a win. Seating is clean and spacious, so you're not elbowing your neighbor. It's not the most intimate dining experience, but for a big group or a hungry family, it's perfect. You'll leave stuffed and satisfied. I'll be back for sure.

Teppanyaki Grill is a traveler's dream, I tell you. Over 100 food varieties, and they don't mess around. The sushi and seafood section was actually fresh and delicious, which is rare for a buffet this size. I hit the pastries at the end, and they were surprisingly good, not like those sad, stale cookies you find elsewhere. Salads were crisp too. It's all-you-can-eat, and the value is solid. I saw folks with plates stacked like towers, and no judgment here. It's a perfect pit stop if you're on the road, or if you just want to eat your weight in variety. The place is busy but efficient. Go hungry, leave happy.

Royal Cuisine Of India knows how to handle spice, and that's a compliment. The spice levels are perfectly tuned, so you get flavor without setting your mouth on fire unless you want that. The garlic cilantro naan? Absolute rock star. I could eat that alone. The chicken biryani is truly phenomenal, fragrant and packed with tender meat. And the rice pudding at the end? Strong finish, creamy and not too sweet. The service is a highlight too because they explain each dish clearly, so you know what you're getting into. It's a welcoming spot that feels like they care about your meal. I left feeling like I'd found a gem, even if I'm banned from saying that word. Just go.

Pleroma Cuisine is all about warmth, starting with Chef B himself. He makes you feel like you're eating at a friend's house, and the family-like atmosphere is real. I had the spring rolls and samosas, both tasty and crispy, but the egusi soup is the star. It's the best I've had around here, rich and comforting. The African dishes are full of flavor, no shortcuts taken. You can tell it's made with love. The place is small, but that adds to the charm. If you're new to this cuisine, let them guide you. They're patient and happy to share. I left with a full belly and a warm heart. Definitely a repeat visit for me.
